together in the south. The bridges pagodas towers and bright colors make Lotus Pond a
vibrant, renowned destination in Zuoying, especially for those interested in visiting
temples. The east side of Lotus Pond is a spacious lakeside path, with the old city of
Zuoying on the west side. Many souvenir shops can be found here and it's usually
buzzing with people. The south shore linked by Shengli Road and Sinjhuangzih Road,
create a complete loop around the pond. Lotus Pond is always shrouded in mist at dawn
and dusk, making it very picturesque and mysterious. It is said Lotus Pond rivals the
beauty of Xi Lake.
●Former British Consulate at Takou ( Daqou)
Built in 1865 during the Ching Dynasty,The Former British Consulate is located on a
small hilltop overlooking Hsizuhwan Bay. It was the first consulate and Western style
house built by the British in Taiwan. The beautiful terrace gives it a very British
appearance. Inside features a display of precious historical artifacts. The former
consulate is therefore another Museum of History. Outside, the view of Hsizuhwan Bay
can be seen on one side, while the other looks out over the Kaohsiung Port. Recently
leisure and dining areas have been added visitors can now enjoy a meal or a pot of tea
within the building. A new vitality has been given to the building, making it one of
the most popular attractions in Kaohsiung.
● Main Stadium(TWG 2009 -The 8th World Games)
When Kaohsiung was granted the right to host The World Games 2009 by the International
World Games Association, the organizing committee immediately launched the venue
renovation and construction project in order to meet International Federation
standards. The most important project was undoubtedly the Main Stadium in the north of
Kaohsiung City. The whole construction of the Main Stadium with a capacity of 40,000
seats, designed by Toyo Ito.The World Games Stadium is not only a breakthrough of
construction techniques,but also different from the traditionally enclosed stadiums;
the open design of the stadium signifies a cordial welcome with cheerful greeting.
Furthermore, the planning of the stadium is oriented at north-south direction, with a
slight northwest-southeast 15-degree angle; the spiral conforms to the open "C" shape
of the stadium. Such design allows the main spectator stand efficiently shelter the
field from the southwestern summer wind and the northwestern winter wind. At the same
time, such orientation shelters from sunlight, thus providing a more comfortable sport
environment. |
